Holwell Combe

Holwell Combe is a proper woodland walk just outside Tiverton, the sort of place locals know well but visitors often miss. You're walking through Devon beech and oak forest, following a stream that does most of the talking - it's genuinely lovely in there, especially when the light filters through the canopy. The combe itself is a deep valley cut by water over centuries, so you get real topography rather than a flat stroll.

This isn't a destination attraction with visitor facilities or grand viewpoints. It's a walker's spot, ideal if you want fresh air and some decent woodland without needing to be somewhere specific for an hour. Most people allow 45 minutes to an hour depending on which route you take. Families with older kids will get on fine here; younger ones might find it a bit samey after 20 minutes. Autumn and spring are cracking times - less muddy than winter and less sticky than high summer.

It slots well into a wider Tiverton area walk or a longer day exploring the Exe Valley. If you're staying at Nirvana Glamping nearby, it's a straightforward morning outing before heading elsewhere. Free to walk, as you'd expect from a country forest, no facilities though so sort yourself out before you arrive.
