Hodders Coppice

Hodders Coppice is a proper woodland walk just inland from Weymouth, the sort of place locals know about but tourists often miss entirely. The trees are dense enough to feel like you've genuinely left the seaside behind, even though you're only a few miles out. It's ancient woodland - meaning it's been forested for centuries, not just planted yesterday - so the paths wind through established growth with decent shade and that earthy smell you get when the canopy's thick.

You're looking at a straightforward woodland ramble here, ideal if you've got families who need a break from beach sand or if you're just after some proper leg-stretching away from the crowds. Dogs love it, children won't find it boring provided you move at a decent pace, and it's free to wander. Allow an hour minimum if you're taking your time, longer if you like photographing fungi or spotting wildlife. The paths are generally well-trodden but can get muddy after rain, so proper footwear matters.

From a holiday park perspective, this works brilliantly if you're based at Chesil Beach Lodge Park or any of the other coastal spots nearby. You get your beach days sorted, then when everyone needs a change of scene - or the weather turns sketchy - Hodders Coppice is close enough for a half-day excursion without eating into your petrol budget. It's the kind of backup plan that actually saves a mediocre day.
