It's the sort of place that rewards a couple of hours with a good pair of boots and binoculars if you're into birds. The hedgerows are genuinely thick with wildlife, and you get proper visibility across the valleys toward Driffield. In spring the place comes alive; autumn's just as rewarding if you're patient.

Families with older kids will get more from it than toddlers - there's no visitor centre or facilities, just gates and fields. It's a walking reserve, pure and simple. History types might find the field patterns interesting if you know what you're looking for, but you won't find plaques or interpretation boards.

If you're staying at Seaways Glamping and Camping just down the road, this is a cracking half-day loop before heading back for a fire. The access is free - you just turn up and walk. Early morning or late afternoon is when the wildlife's most active, and you'll avoid any farm machinery. Allow a couple of hours if you're doing the longer route properly. Worth fitting in if you're exploring the Yorkshire reserves, though it's not the sort of showpiece that warrants a special journey on its own.
