High Vinnalls

High Vinnalls sits above Ludlow like a proper vantage point should - high enough to matter, close enough to actually reach without needing mountaineering kit. The walk up takes you through rolling Herefordshire countryside, and once you're there, the view stretches across the Marches toward Wales with genuine drama. On a clear day you can see why people bothered walking up here at all.

It's a straightforward hill walk rather than a technical scramble, so families with decent stamina will manage it without fuss. Older kids who aren't ready for serious peaks but want to feel they've done something will find it rewarding. The actual summit isn't monumentally high, but the sense of space and the drop of the land around you make it feel properly earned.

Go in spring or early autumn when the weather's cooperative and the grass underfoot isn't sodden. The route from Ludlow itself is well-trodden enough that you won't spend hours route-finding. Allow a couple of hours from town and back, depending on pace and how long you linger at the top.
