High Plantation is a proper forest walk just outside Petworth, the kind of place where you can actually hear yourself think. It's dense woodland with decent trails threading through - nothing too demanding, but enough ups and downs to feel like proper exercise rather than a stroll. The canopy here is thick, so it's genuinely cool even on warm days, which makes it a solid choice if you're visiting in summer and fancy escaping the heat.

You'll get the most out of this if you're a walker or someone who just needs green space and quiet. Kids tend to enjoy it for the first hour or so - fallen logs to clamber over, the occasional bit of wildlife spotting - though it won't hold their attention for a full day. There's nothing spectacular in terms of views or heritage moments; this is about the walk itself and the simple fact of being among trees.

No idea on admission fees or opening hours, so check locally before you head out. Allow a couple of hours if you're doing a proper circuit. It slots in well with a park-based holiday in the area. Both Wakestone & Wild Glamping and Graffham Camping are close by, so you could easily base yourself at one of those and treat High Plantation as a morning walk before settling into the campsite for the afternoon. Petworth itself is a proper market town with a good high street, so you've got options for lunch if the weather turns.
