Helmeth Hill

The walk up Helmeth Hill is straightforward enough - nothing technical, just a proper leg-stretcher with views that expand the higher you climb. It's the kind of Shropshire peak that rewards effort without demanding it, sitting near Willstone and surrounded by the kind of rolling countryside that makes you understand why people camp round here.

From the top you get sight lines across the local hills, and on a clear day the visibility is decent. The ascent takes roughly an hour depending on fitness and whether you stop to catch your breath - which, honestly, you will. It's not steep in the dramatic sense, but it's relentless enough that you know you've done something by the time you reach the summit.

This works best for walkers after a genuine outing rather than a quick tourist tick-box. Families with older kids will manage fine; very young ones might find the trudge tedious. There's nothing at the top except the view and your own company, which is either exactly what you want or not what you want at all.

Several campsites cluster nearby - Alderwood Glamping and Small Batch Camp Site are both within two miles, while Mountain Edge and Church Stretton Camp and Fish are just beyond three miles. Makes sense as a morning walk if you're based at any of those. Pack water and decent shoes. No facilities on the hill itself, so go prepared.
