Hazel Covert

A small patch of woodland that feels properly wild despite being just a short walk from Brynteg. Hazel Covert might not appear on many tourist maps, but this little forest offers something increasingly rare - genuine quiet.

The trees here are mostly what you'd expect from the name, with hazel dominating the canopy alongside oak and birch. It's the sort of place where you can hear every twig snap underfoot and actually spot the birds rather than just hear them. Families with young kids will find it manageable - no steep climbs or challenging terrain to worry about.

Walking through takes maybe 30 minutes if you're dawdling, which is exactly what this place deserves. The paths aren't marked or maintained to National Trust standards, but that's rather the point. You get that proper sense of discovery without needing hiking boots or an OS map.
