Hawkstone Park Follies - Swiss Bridge

The Swiss Bridge at Hawkstone Park Follies is a proper curiosity - a cast iron arch that looks like it's been plucked straight from the Alps and dropped into rural Shropshire. It spans a ravine with genuine drama, all craggy red sandstone cliffs either side, and the thing's genuinely thrilling to cross if you're not mad keen on heights.

This is part of the wider Hawkstone Park estate, a Victorian folly landscape that rewards a good walk. The bridge itself is the star turn though - Victorian engineers went to town on it, and you can feel the craftsmanship just looking at it. The views from the top stretch across the surrounding countryside, and on a clear day you'll clock the Welsh hills in the distance.

It's ideal for walkers who like a bit of history mixed with their rambling. Families with older kids will find it genuinely exciting - younger ones might need a hand across, and it can feel exposed if you're not comfortable with exposure. Allow a couple of hours to do the park properly rather than just dashing in for the bridge.
