Gwylfa

You won't find Gwylfa on many tourist maps, which is rather the point. This peak sits just inland from Pwllheli on the Llyn Peninsula, and it's the sort of walk that rewards you properly without demanding a full day of your time. The ascent isn't punishing - more of a steady push through moorland that opens up as you climb - and once you're at the summit, the payoff is immediate. On a clear day, you get views across the peninsula and out towards Cardigan Bay. It's the kind of spot where you actually feel like you've earned the vista rather than just turning up and clicking your phone.

Walkers will get the most from Gwylfa. It's not a scramble or anything technical, just good honest walking country with rough ground underfoot. Families with primary-aged kids who don't mind a bit of effort will find it manageable, though you'll want decent boots and weather that cooperates. Allow an hour or so for the round trip depending on your pace and how long you linger at the top.

If you're based at one of the nearby caravan parks - Llwyn Ffynnon or Gyrn Ddu Campsite are only a few miles away - this makes a brilliant morning or afternoon outing without needing to drive somewhere grand. It's the sort of walk that breaks up a holiday nicely, especially if you're after something less crowded than Snowdonia but still proper wild.
