About Guy's Plantation
Walkers will get the most from this one. There are decent paths threading through, nothing too demanding, but enough variation to keep you engaged for a solid couple of hours. Bring binoculars if you're into that sort of thing - woodland birds are abundant, and if you're lucky you might spot deer. Families with younger kids might find it a bit samey after an hour or so; there's no play equipment or visitor facilities to speak of, which is honestly part of its charm.
The woodland itself is actively managed, so you'll see signs of forestry work - coppiced areas, newly planted sections - which some people find interesting and others find a bit industrial. Fair warning there. It's free to access, which makes it worth a morning wander if you're staying at Hallcroft Fishery just down the road.
Go when it's not been raining for days, or the paths turn into genuine bog. Autumn is special here - the light through the trees is something else. Winter's lovely too if you don't mind the damp.
