Double Clump

Two clumps of woodland, really - that's the honest truth about Double Clump. But sitting just outside Worksop in Nottinghamshire, it's the sort of place that rewards a proper walk without demanding much from you. The trees are decent, there's proper woodland underfoot, and on a quiet morning you'll likely have the paths to yourself.

It works well as a leg-stretcher if you're based at one of the nearby parks - Clumber Park Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite is barely a mile away, and the main Clumber Park estate is only just over a mile further. So if you're doing a longer stay in the area, this fits neatly into a morning ramble before breakfast at the caravan. Families with young kids might find it a bit lacking in obvious attractions - there's no café, no visitor centre, just woodland - but if you've got walkers who want to get off the main paths, it's worth the detour.

The forest itself isn't dramatic. No views out, no rare plants as far as most visitors will notice, just decent beech and oak doing what they do. Honestly, the appeal is in the quietness of it. Go early, go midweek if you can, and you'll understand why local walkers keep it on rotation. On a Saturday afternoon in July? Probably best to head to Clumber Park proper instead. Allow an hour at most unless you're really keen on tree identification.
