Greenrig Wood

Walking into Greenrig Wood from Cupar direction feels like stepping into proper Fife countryside - all dense trees, woodland floor thick with moss, and the kind of quiet that makes you actually hear birdsong. It's a straightforward forest walk rather than some manicured country estate, which is refreshing. You get a real sense of what the local woods are actually like, not a prettified version for tourists.

The wood itself is manageable for families with decent legs - nothing too steep or technical, just woodland paths that wind through decent-sized trees. Kids tend to get a genuine kick out of it because there's proper exploring to be done: fallen logs to clamber over, bits of forest that feel slightly wild. Not the sort of place where they'll be entertained for hours, mind you. Two hours is probably the sweet spot for most people.

Historically types won't find plaques or interpretation boards - this is just a wood you walk through, not a heritage experience. But if you're already exploring Fife's parks and gardens, particularly if you're staying at Woodland Gardens Caravan & Camping nearby, it's worth a morning ramble. Wigwam Holidays is also close enough to make it part of a wider day out.

Best visited when the ground isn't waterlogged, so avoid deep winter unless you don't mind muddy boots. Spring and early summer when there's decent light through the canopy are lovely times. Free to access, no obvious facilities - bring your own supplies.
