Greathill Copse

Dense woodland doesn't sound like much on paper, but Greathill Copse near Tiverton is one of those places that grows on you once you're actually in it. The canopy here is thick enough that even on drizzly Devon afternoons, you stay relatively dry - which matters more than you'd think. It's proper woodland walking, not manicured paths or visitor centres, just trees and the occasional clear track cutting through.The copse works best for people who genuinely like being among trees rather than those after Instagram moments. Bring proper boots if you've had rain. It's the sort of place where a hour-long wander is enough, though you could stretch it to two if you're not rushing. No café, no facilities that I could see - come prepared. Free access, as far as I can tell from my visit, though there's nothing formal about it.Paired with Nirvana Glamping just down the road, it's a solid morning or afternoon escape for families or couples after a quieter woodland experience. The proximity means you're not driving far from your accommodation, which counts for something when you're on holiday. It won't blow your mind, but it does what it says on the tin - gives you a proper trawl through Devon woodland without the tourist infrastructure. That's increasingly rare.
