Great Perhaver Beach

Scrambling down the clifftop path from Gorran Haven, you'll find this pocket-sized sandy cove that most visitors miss entirely. Great Perhaver sits tucked between rocky headlands, accessible only on foot and completely cut off at high tide - which is precisely what makes it special.

The sand here is proper golden stuff, and when the tide's out you get decent rock pools for the kids to explore. It's the sort of spot where you can have a proper picnic without dodging beach footballs or stepping over someone else's towel. That said, there's absolutely no facilities - no loos, no cafe, not even a bin - so come prepared.

Families with older children who don't mind a bit of adventure will love it here, though I wouldn't attempt it with a pushchair or heavy beach kit. The walk takes about twenty minutes from Gorran Haven village, and it's a bit of a slog back up those cliffs after a day in the sun.

Timing matters enormously. Check the tide tables before you go - arrive two hours before low tide for maximum beach time. From nearby holiday parks like Pentewan Sands or Heligan Caravan and Camping, it makes for a cracking half-day trip if you fancy escaping the crowds. Just don't expect to find it signposted.
