Sandy Cove

The beach at Sandy Cove sits just south of Woolacombe, a modest crescent of sand backed by low cliffs and accessible via a short coastal walk. It's the sort of spot locals know better than visitors - quieter than Woolacombe's main beach, with rockpools worth exploring at low tide and enough space to feel like you've actually found somewhere on your own. The walk down takes five minutes, maybe ten if you're dawdling. Families with younger kids will appreciate the gentler access compared to some of Devon's more dramatic drops, though the actual beach isn't vast - an hour here is realistic before restlessness sets in. The main appeal is simplicity. There's no café, no facilities, just sand and sea and the chance to potter about without the carnival atmosphere of busier stretches. Worth the short trip from Woolacombe Bay Holiday Park or any of the other parks scattered nearby, particularly if you're staying put for a few days and need variety. Best visited in calmer weather - rough swells can make the rocks uninviting. Head there mid-morning to catch the light properly and avoid the worst of the afternoon crowds, though crowds here are barely a concept. It's the sort of place you'd return to without fanfare, not because it's spectacular but because it actually works.
