Graig Wion

Graig Wion is a proper hill walk rather than a strenuous mountain push, sitting above Talsarnau in Gwynedd with views that stretch across the Snowdonia foothills. It's the kind of peak walkers tackle on a weekday afternoon when they can't face a full day commitment but still want something with a bit of elevation gain and decent perspectives across the valleys below.

The walk itself takes a couple of hours return from the base, depending on your pace and how long you linger at the top. On a clear day you'll clock views towards the coast and inland towards the higher peaks - it's a handy vantage point for getting your bearings if you're exploring the region. The terrain is straightforward fell-walking rather than scrambling, so families with older kids and regular hikers will find it manageable.

Barcdy Caravan & Camping Park sits less than five miles away, as do Woodlands and Castle View further out - all reasonable bases for a few days exploring this bit of North Wales. The walk doesn't require booking or payment and you can access it year-round, though autumn and late spring offer the kindest conditions underfoot.

If you're parked up locally and the weather's playing ball, it's worth the detour. Don't expect solitude or dramatic rockfaces, but you'll get a tidy hillwalk with reasonable views and the satisfaction of reaching a proper summit. It's unpretentious stuff - which is exactly why it works.
