Built in the 1840s, it's Gothic Revival done with conviction, not the watered-down stuff you see everywhere.

What makes it work is the craftsmanship. The ironwork is genuinely impressive, and the woodcarving rewards close inspection. It's the sort of place where you'll spend longer than you expected, tilting your head up at the ceiling and spotting details for the first time even on a second visit. The light changes everything - go mid-afternoon if you can, when the sun actually catches those windows.

History enthusiasts will appreciate the Victorian engineering and design choices, though it's not one for kids unless they're genuinely interested in architecture. Most visitors allow 20 minutes to half an hour, but there's enough going on that you could stretch it if the mood takes you.

Shrewsbury itself is worth a proper day, and if you're based at Springfield Riverside Camping and Glamping just outside the town, Grace Church makes a solid addition to a morning's wandering.
