Gospelgreen Copse

A proper woodland walk through ancient Sussex forest, Gospelgreen Copse offers the sort of quiet you can actually hear. It's the kind of place where you'll spot bluebells in spring and spot woodpeckers if you're lucky enough - though mostly you'll just enjoy the thick canopy and soft forest floor underfoot.

The copse itself is fairly small, manageable in an hour or so depending on how often you stop to breathe in the woodsmoke smell of old leaves. There's no visitor centre or facilities to speak of, which is part of its charm - you're not paying for an experience here, just walking through woodland the way people have done for centuries. Families with younger kids might find it a bit limited on its own, but it makes a solid stretch-the-legs stop if you're basing yourself in the area.

Petworth sits about a mile away and is worth knowing about - the town's got proper shops and pubs if you need sustenance after your walk. If you're staying at one of the nearby glamping spots like Little Cowdray Farm or Glamping Holiday, you're well positioned to make this a morning outing before heading off elsewhere.
