The moment you arrive at GeoMôn, you're walking through geology rather than just looking at it. This nature reserve on Anglesey is all about the rocks - literally. The whole point is the exposed geology and what it tells you about how this corner of Wales was built, layer by layer, over millions of years.

You'll be walking trails that take you past distinctive rock formations and coastal features. It's the sort of place where a geologist would spend hours pointing at striations and getting genuinely excited, but honestly, even if you're not that keen on the technical stuff, the landscape itself is worth the walk. The reserve is close to Bodorgan, which makes it a decent morning or afternoon stop if you're based at one of the nearby caravan parks - Penbryn is only a couple of miles away, or Y Fronydd if you prefer camping.

Best suited to walkers with an interest in natural history, or families who don't mind a bit of educational tramping. Small children might get restless unless you're good at making rocks sound interesting. The coastal setting means weather can change quickly, so check conditions before you head out.

It's free to access, which is always a bonus. You won't need more than a couple of hours here unless you're doing a longer circular walk through the area. Spring and early summer are best - the light's better and you won't be battling coastal winds quite so hard. Well worth including if you're doing a geology-focused holiday on Anglesey, or if you just fancy a proper walk that's a bit different from the standard beach-and-ice-cream routine.
