Din Dryfol

Ancient stone circles don't get much more atmospheric than this Bronze Age burial site perched on Anglesey's windswept landscape. Din Dryfol consists of a well-preserved stone circle with several standing stones that have weathered thousands of years of Welsh weather. The site feels properly remote - you'll likely have it to yourself unless you bump into the odd dog walker or archaeology enthusiast.

History buffs will love the connection to prehistoric burial practices, though families with young children might find the walk across rough grassland a bit much. The stones themselves aren't towering monuments - they're more subtle markers that require a bit of imagination to picture their original ceremonial purpose.

Getting there involves a decent trek from the nearest parking, so wear proper walking boots and allow at least an hour for the round trip. The site sits near Bodorgan, making it a worthy detour if you're staying at one of the caravan parks dotted around this part of Anglesey. Y Fronydd Caravan & Camping Park is closest at just over a mile away.

What makes Din Dryfol special isn't grandeur but solitude. Standing among these ancient stones with nothing but Welsh countryside stretching away in all directions gives you a real sense of stepping back in time. Well worth the effort if you appreciate archaeology without the crowds.
