Flambers Hill

The walk up Flambers Hill rewards you with one of the best views across the Ribble Valley, especially if you time it right with the late afternoon sun warming the moorland. It's a straightforward climb from Clitheroe - nothing that'll break you, but steep enough in places to get the heart going. The hill itself is moorland rather than woodland, so there's proper exposure as you go higher, which means wind can be bracing but the vistas open up fast.

This is a walk for people who want the payoff without spending half the day on the fell. Families with older kids will manage it fine; younger ones might find the final push tedious. The whole thing takes roughly an hour there and back, depending on fitness and whether you stop to take photographs. If you're staying at one of the glamping spots nearby - Hedgerow or Deerstone are closest, both within three miles - it makes a cracking morning outing before heading to Clitheroe town for lunch. Thornton Hall Country Park and Holgates Ribble Valley also base you well for access. The walk itself is free; just turn up and find a sensible place to start.
