Fishermans walk

The walk along the riverbank near Llanidloes takes its name from the fishermen who've worked these waters for generations, and it's still one of the better stretches if you want to get down to the water without a lot of faffing about. You're following the river itself, which is the whole point really - just flowing water, trees, and the kind of quiet that actually feels like quiet rather than someone having turned the volume down.

It's not a dramatic walk, and that's precisely why it works. Nothing steep, nothing that requires proper kit, just a riverside potter that'll take you an hour or so depending on how often you stop to watch the water. The path is well-maintained, which matters more than it sounds when you're in Mid Wales where "path" can sometimes mean "roughly trodden earth."

Families with youngsters will manage this fine - there's nothing to get lost on, and kids tend to like following rivers. History types will find the fishing heritage interesting enough, though don't expect plaques and interpretation boards at every turn. You're getting the landscape, not a museum experience.

If you're camping at one of the nearby parks - Ty Llewelyn Glamping is barely a mile away, or Glangwy Farm if you want something slightly further out - this makes a decent morning before heading to Llanidloes town itself for lunch. Worth doing once if you're in the area for a few days. Not worth making a special trip for, but then nothing out here should be.
