Fernacre Stone Circle

Five granite stones stand in a field near Bodmin, weathered and silent. That's Fernacre Stone Circle - nothing grand, nothing touristy, just a Bronze Age monument that's been here for four thousand years and most people drive past without noticing.

It's the kind of place walkers stumble upon by accident, or locals point out to children learning about how people really lived in prehistoric Cornwall. The circle itself is modest - not Stonehenge, not even close - but there's something honest about that. No gift shop, no barriers, no crowds fighting for the Instagram shot.

You can walk right up to it, touch the stones, let your mind wander backwards through time. The surrounding countryside is proper lovely too, rolling moorland that gives you a sense of why people chose this spot. Allow maybe twenty minutes here unless you're the type to sit with a coffee and contemplate mortality for an hour.

If you're based at Ekopod Glamping or Trewithen Farm Glamping - both excellent, worth the premium - this works as a morning wander before heading to Bodmin Moor or south towards the coast. It's not a destination in itself, but it's absolutely worth the five-minute detour if you're already in the area. Real history, zero fuss.
