Felicity Cove

The walk down to Felicity Cove takes you through proper wild Cornish landscape - gorse and bracken giving way to sudden glimpses of the sea. Mount Hawke sits a few miles inland, so this feels properly remote even though you're never far from civilisation. The cove itself is small, dramatic, and exactly the sort of place that makes you understand why people move to Cornwall and never leave. Rocky outcrops rise up on either side, the beach is pebbly and dark, and on a decent day the light hits the water in that particular way that makes you forget why you ever bothered with anywhere else. It's a walker's spot rather than a sunbather's - the appeal is in getting there, not sprawling out for hours. Most people spend twenty minutes to half an hour exploring, poking around the rocks, maybe scrambling about a bit if the tide's right. Free to visit, naturally, and worth the detour if you're basing yourself at Lanyon Holiday Park up the road - five miles isn't far, and it breaks up the day nicely. The coastal path nearby connects to other spots worth investigating, so it's not a one-stop job. Go early or late to avoid the odd tourist coach that finds its way down. Bring proper shoes - it's slippery, and the rocks don't care about your balance.
