National Trust - Chapel Porth

The sand here is proper golden when the light hits it right, which isn't often enough in Cornwall. Chapel Porth is a National Trust beach tucked between two headlands near Goonvrea, and it's one of those spots that rewards showing up on a decent day - when it's grey and windswept, you'll wonder why you bothered.

There's a small car park right above the beach, which is rare and brilliant for families with younger kids. The beach itself slopes gently, which means paddling is genuinely manageable rather than a battle with sharp drops. Behind the sand sit the remains of old mining infrastructure - worthwhile if industrial archaeology interests you, less so if you're after a pristine seaside photo.

Allow an hour or two depending on tides and mood. It's not a destination that demands a full day, but it slots neatly into a longer coastal walk if you're heading towards Perranporth. The Trust doesn't charge for access, though parking details aren't readily available.

Stay at Perran View, Wrinklers Wood, or Trevarth - all within three miles - and you've got a genuinely accessible beach within easy reach. Anchor Barrow Campsite is slightly further but worth considering if you want something more basic. The beach works best for families and anyone wanting a gentler swimming spot than some of Cornwall's more dramatic coves. It's not dramatic, and that's rather the point.
