National Trust - St Agnes Head

The walk out to St Agnes Head is what you're really after here. This National Trust-owned headland juts into the Atlantic with proper dramatic coastal views - the kind where you actually feel the wind trying to knock you sideways. The cliffs are undercut and craggy, dropped stone faces that look like they've been shredded by centuries of Atlantic swells. On a clear day you can see right along the Cornish coast towards Trevose Head.

It's a straightforward coastal path from the little village of St Agnes itself, and the route takes maybe 45 minutes to an hour each way depending on how much time you spend gawping at the view. The headland itself has that raw, windswept quality - scrubby grass and gorse, no facilities, no crowds. That's rather the point. This isn't about interpretation boards or visitor centres; it's about standing on a proper bit of wild Cornish coastline.

Walkers and photographers will get the most from it. If you're with young kids, the exposed cliff edge means you'll need to keep them close, and the wind can be absolutely ferocious. The best light is late afternoon when the sun swings round from the west and catches the stone.

Goonvrea sits inland, so you're looking at a short drive or longer walk from the village. If you're camped at Perran View or any of the other parks dotted around this stretch - Wrinklers Wood, Anchor Barrow, Tollgate Farm - St Agnes Head makes a solid half-day excursion. Free to visit, naturally. Go when the weather's decent; a gale-force westerly turns it into something genuinely hostile.
