Exe Valley Leisure Centre

The leisure centre sits on the edge of Tiverton, a proper working-class sports facility rather than anything fancy. Indoor pool, gym, squash courts, the usual setup. If you're staying at nearby Nirvana Glamping and fancy a swim or a bit of a workout, it's close enough to be genuinely useful - saves you driving forty minutes to Plymouth or Exeter for a decent pool session.

You won't come to Devon for this. But if you've got restless kids after a few days of countryside rambling, or you fancy an actual swim that isn't the arctic North Devon coast, it does the job. The pool is standard leisure-centre fare - nothing remarkable, but clean and functional. The gym equipment gets the job done if you're trying to stay fit on holiday.

Best bet is to ring ahead - opening hours and what they're charging aren't obviously published online, which is a bit annoying. Weekday mornings tend to be quieter than weekends. Allow an hour or two depending on what you're doing. It's the sort of place where a rainy afternoon won't feel wasted, rather than somewhere you'd rearrange your holiday around. Honest assessment: useful infrastructure rather than an attraction.
