Everest's Bridge

The bridge itself is modest - a Victorian iron structure that crosses the Tawe estuary on the eastern side of Swansea, linking the city to Morriston. It's named after George Everest, the surveyor after whom Mount Everest was named, though frankly it's not the sort of landmark that'll stop you in your tracks. What you're really after here is the walk along the riverside, which gives proper views across to the Swansea waterfront and the hills beyond.

It works best as part of a broader wander rather than a destination in itself. The bridge is free to cross on foot, and it takes perhaps twenty minutes to stroll across and back, though lingering longer if the light's good makes sense. Families with young children won't find much to hold their attention beyond five minutes unless they're keen on industrial heritage - the bridge is more about the setting than the thing itself.

The real appeal is its position in Swansea's story. Everest's Bridge marks the edge of the old docklands and the beginning of the Tawe Valley beyond. If you're based at one of the nearby caravan parks - Swansea Marina Tourer Park is closest at 3.4 miles - it's an easy morning outing before heading towards Three Cliffs Bay Holiday Park or further into the Gower Peninsula. Combine it with a walk along the promenade or a coffee stop in Morriston, but don't expect this bridge to be the highlight of your trip.
