Eagles Rock

The scramble up to Eagles Rock takes about twenty minutes from the car park, and it's steep enough that you'll feel it in your legs but not so brutal that you need technical kit. What you get at the top is a proper reward - views across the Snowdonia peaks that make the huff and puff entirely worthwhile. On a clear day you can see for miles, with Caernarfon Castle visible in the distance and the Menai Strait glinting beyond.

It's the kind of spot that appeals to walkers wanting something quick but with genuine altitude gain, and families with older kids who don't mind a bit of a push. Younger children might find the scramble a touch frustrating, though a confident five-year-old could manage it. The rock itself is unspectacular - just a rocky outcrop - but it's the vantage point that counts.

There's no entrance fee and no facilities at the top, so bring water and something to eat if you're stopping for long. The whole trip takes roughly an hour return, making it a decent half-day slot in a park-based holiday. It sits nicely between the nearby campsites - Bryn Dinas Camping Pods is barely a mile away, with Llyn Gwynant and Cae Du Campsite also within easy striking distance if you're basing yourself in the area. Worth the detour if you're staying locally, though don't expect solitude at weekends.
