Standing at 468 metres, this rocky outcrop delivers proper mountain views without the slog of Snowdon. The name translates to 'Parson's Rock' - legend has it a vicar once got stranded here during a storm. From Caernarfon, it's a decent drive through Llanberis Pass to reach the starting points.

Experienced walkers will find several routes up, though none are particularly well-marked. The scramble near the summit gets properly steep and requires a good head for heights. On a clear day, the panorama takes in Snowdon's eastern face, the Glyderau range, and down towards Llyn Padarn.

Families with young children should give this one a miss - it's not a gentle hill walk by any stretch. Keen hikers and those after a bit of adventure will love the challenge, especially if they're based at one of the nearby campsites like Llyn Gwynant or Beddgelert. The rock formations are genuinely impressive once you're up there.

Allow three to four hours for the round trip, longer if you're taking photos. Weather changes fast in these parts, so proper kit is essential. It's free to climb, naturally, and far less crowded than the bigger peaks. Worth combining with a visit to Llanberis if you're camping at one of the local sites - Bryn Gloch or Talymignedd make decent bases for exploring this corner of Snowdonia.
