Dunollie Lighthouse

Perched on a rocky headland just outside Oban, Dunollie Lighthouse cuts a solitary figure against the Argyll coastline. It's not the easiest spot to reach - you'll need to walk out along the clifftop path from the main road, and the final approach involves scrambling over uneven ground - but that remoteness is precisely what makes it worth the effort.

The lighthouse itself is modest in scale, painted in that distinctive red and white livery, and while you can't go inside, the real appeal lies in the setting. Stand at the base and you're looking out across open water towards the islands, with the Oban skyline behind you. On a clear day it's genuinely striking; on a grey one it feels properly atmospheric.

Walkers will find this a decent half-hour detour if you're already exploring the coastline around Oban. It's not a major attraction in its own right - don't make a special trip from far away - but combine it with a coastal walk and it works well. The path itself can be boggy after rain, so decent boots are sensible. No facilities out here, so bring what you need.
