Ganavan Hill

The walk up Ganavan Hill takes about forty minutes if you're moving at a decent pace, and the effort pays off with proper views across the Firth of Lorn toward the islands. It's not steep enough to leave you gasping, but it's not a stroll either - boots are wise, especially after rain when the path gets boggy.

From the top you can see Kerrera and Mull spreading out in front of you, and on a clear day the perspective shifts how you understand Oban's geography. The peak itself is modest - there's no summit cairn or dramatic outcrop, just open moorland and the satisfaction of having climbed something. Walkers will find this worthwhile; families with young legs will get a decent afternoon out of it; history types won't find much up here beyond the view itself.

The approach is straightforward from Oban's southern edge, and you can fit this into a park stay without hassle - Tanunda Pods or Loch View Luxury Pod are close enough that you'd barely need to plan around it. Couple hours total, including the descent. Go early if you want to avoid other walkers on weekends, and avoid the window after heavy rain when the whole thing becomes a minor mud run.

It's honest rather than spectacular. Not a headline attraction, but the kind of walk that reminds you why you came to Argyll in the first place.
