Dunardry Forest Walks

A sprawl of woodland trails winds through Dunardry Forest just outside Lochgilphead, offering proper forest bathing without the pretension. You're walking through mixed Scottish woodland - nothing dramatic or showy, just straightforward trees, undergrowth, and the occasional glimpse of water through the canopy. The trails are well-marked and manageable, ranging from short loops you can knock out in forty minutes to longer walks that'll take a couple of hours. It's the kind of place where you go to clear your head rather than tick off a bucket-list moment.

Families with younger kids will do fine here - the tracks are solid underfoot and you won't be scrambling over rocks. Serious walkers might find it a touch tame, but that's rather the point. It's an easy add-on to a caravan park stay at The Pod Over By or Lochgilphead Caravan Park, both within a few minutes' drive, rather than a destination in itself. Go early or late in the day if you want the place to yourself. The forest is quieter then, and honestly, that's when it feels most rewarding. There's nothing fancy here - no visitor centre, no café - which means you're getting unadulterated woodland and not much else. If that appeals, it's time well spent. If you need infrastructure and interpretation boards, you might find yourself asking what you drove out here for after an hour.
