Cnoc Reamhar

The walk up Cnoc Reamhar won't take all day - it's a proper wee hill rather than a proper mountain, which is exactly why it works so well if you're based near Lochgilphead. Most people park near the base and find themselves at the summit in under an hour, enjoying views across Argyll that stretch toward the coast. On a clear day you can make out the Kintyre Peninsula and the islands beyond. It's the sort of place where you can feel like you've achieved something without needing climbing gear or a detailed OS map.

This suits walkers who want real views without the trudge, or families wanting a quick scramble that won't end in complaints. The ground gets a bit boggy lower down, so proper boots are worth bringing. There's no visitor facility or café at the top - just you, the wind, and the landscape. Come in the morning before cloud rolls in; afternoons can be frustratingly murky even when it's clear lower down.

If you're staying at Lochgilphead Caravan Park or Carradale Bay Holiday Park, you're well placed to tick this off as a half-day activity. Pair it with a drive around the Kintyre coast or a visit to somewhere with more structured attractions nearby. It's not dramatic enough to warrant a special trip from outside the area, but it's absolutely worth the effort if you're already in Argyll for a week.
