Dduallt

The walk up Dduallt from Dolgellau is one of those hill climbs that feels properly rewarding without completely doing you in. It's a steep push, mind you - the path doesn't mess about - but you're looking at under two hours to reach the summit if you're moving at a decent pace.

Once you're up there, the views across the Mawddach estuary are genuinely fine. You can see right down to Barmouth on clear days, and the surrounding ridges of the Cader Idris range hem you in nicely. The peak itself is modest in height but feels like a proper vantage point rather than just another hilltop.

Families with older kids who don't mind a slog will manage this fine. Younger ones might struggle with the steepness, though the path is well-defined enough. It's the sort of walk where you'll see other people pushing on, which can be motivating when your legs start complaining halfway up.

If you're based at Llwyn yr Helm Caravan and Camping Park just outside Dolgellau, you're ideally placed for this. It's an easy morning or afternoon expedition - the kind of thing you could do without eating into a full day's plans. The nearby town of Dolgellau itself has decent parking and facilities if you're coming from further afield. Go midweek in good weather and you'll mostly have the ridge to yourself.
