It's the kind of spot that works best if you're not expecting much. Come for a brisk hour or so on a crisp morning, and you'll get something. The terrain isn't demanding - ideal if you're staying at Twenty Shilling Wood Holiday Park or Comrie Holiday Park just down the road and fancy a leg-stretch between visits to Comrie Croft or Loch Earn Leisure Park. Older kids will manage it fine; younger ones might flag if you're after a proper expedition.

Walking boots sensible, though trainers will do. No facilities to speak of that I could spot, so sort yourself out in Crieff beforehand. The wood sits in decent walking country, so you could easily tack this onto a broader wander through the Perthshire glens. Honestly, it's not the sort of place you plan a day around, but if you're already in the area, it fills an hour without complaint. Free to access, naturally. Best visited when it's not absolutely rammed with midges - so avoid the height of summer unless you fancy playing dodgems with the bugs.
