Deil's Cauldron Waterfall

The walk down to Deil's Cauldron isn't long, but it's steep enough that you'll feel it in your thighs on the way back up. The waterfall itself drops into a dark pool surrounded by high rock walls - the kind of place that makes you understand why locals call it the Devil's Cauldron. It's genuinely dramatic, especially after heavy rain when the water comes crashing down properly.

You'll need proper footwear. The path gets slippery, and there's a section where you're basically scrambling down wet rock. That said, it's only a ten-minute descent from the car park near Crieff, so it's not a massive commitment. The pool at the base is deep and cold - locals do swim in it during summer, if you're the type.

This works well for history types and walkers, though families with very young kids might find the scramble a bit much. It's free and accessible year-round, though winter can make it treacherous. Don't bother in drought conditions - the fall becomes a trickle and loses all its appeal.

If you're staying at one of the nearby parks like Comrie Holiday Park or Comrie Croft, this makes a proper morning's outing combined with a walk around the village itself. The real strength here is that it's genuinely wild and unspoilt - no cafe, no visitor centre, no crowds. That's either exactly what you want or a reason to skip it entirely.
