Crug Du

Standing stones don't get much more atmospheric than this Bronze Age circle perched on a hillside overlooking the Teifi Valley. Crug Du consists of four weathered megaliths - the remnants of what archaeologists believe was once a complete stone circle dating back some 4,000 years. The stones themselves are proper ancient Welsh slate, darkened by centuries of wind and rain, which gives the site its name - 'black hill' in Welsh.

History buffs will love piecing together the puzzle of what this place once was. The positioning suggests it had ritual significance, with commanding views across the valley towards Llandysul. Walking enthusiasts get a double win here - the site sits on public footpaths with decent parking nearby, making it an easy addition to a Ceredigion ramble.
