Blaen Cribor

Two hours of steady climbing through bracken and sheep tracks brings you to this unsung 425-metre summit above Llandysul. The path starts well enough but fades to nothing halfway up - you'll be picking your own route through tussocky grass and the odd boggy patch. Worth it though for the views across the Ceredigion hills rolling away in all directions.

Walkers who enjoy a proper scramble will love this one. Families with young children should probably give it a miss - there's no clear track and the terrain gets quite rough near the top. The OS map is essential unless you fancy spending the afternoon wandering in circles.

On a clear day you can see right across to Cardigan Bay, though the weather up here changes fast. I've been caught in driving rain when it was sunny at the bottom. Allow three hours return from any of the nearby parking spots in Llandysul.

Perfect for those staying at the glamping sites dotted around the area like Let's Glamp Retro or Thistledown Glamping. After a day tramping around Blaen Cribor, you'll appreciate having a proper bed waiting rather than wrestling with tent pegs. The summit itself is just a grassy mound marked by a small cairn, but the sense of achievement and those views make the slog worthwhile.
