About Crook o' Hindber Hill
This is prime country for walkers who want an actual hill without the full-day commitment. Families with older kids will manage it fine; younger ones might find the gradient a bit much on the return leg. The terrain is moorland rather than woodland, so there's bugger all shade if the sun's beating down. Worth taking water.
The peak works brilliantly as a half-day sortie if you're basing yourself at one of the nearby spots - Ribblesdale Pods is genuinely excellent for glamping, just 2.4 miles away, and you could knock this out before breakfast or after an early lunch. Philpin Farm Campsite is another solid option at 5.5 miles. Neither location requires you to trek miles for a decent walk.
No facilities on the hill itself. Free to climb. Best tackled in decent weather when visibility justifies the effort. The Settle area has plenty of other fells and limestone country within striking distance, so stack this with a few other walks if you're spending more than a night in the region.
