Creag Eallaich

The walk up Creag Eallaich from Pitlochry is properly straightforward, which means you'll actually get to the top without needing a rescue helicopter. It's not a slog. The peak itself sits about 680 metres up and offers decent views back down the Tummel Valley - on a clear day you can see enough to make the effort feel worth it.

This isn't a destination for sitting around with a packed lunch for hours. You're looking at a couple of hours up and back, making it ideal if you're staying at one of the caravan parks nearby - River Tilt Park or Faskally Woods - and want a proper walk without committing your entire afternoon. Families with older kids who don't mind a bit of gradient will manage fine. Younger children might find it a stretch.

Walkers and hill enthusiasts passing through Perthshire often slot this in between other activities. It's the sort of hill you do because you're in the area, not because you've planned a trip around it. The path is reasonably maintained and the ascent, while steady, won't leave you gasping. Weather matters here - wind can kick up on the exposed sections - so pick a decent day or you'll just be staring into cloud.

Parking is at Pitlochry itself, which is well set up for visitors with proper facilities. It works well as part of a broader exploration of the Tay Valley, particularly if you're already visiting Blair Castle or spending time in the surrounding woodlands.
