Craggs Hill

The walk up Craggs Hill from Carnforth is straightforward enough, and on a clear day the views across Morecambe Bay justify the effort. It's not a dramatic fell - nothing like the Lake District proper - but it's a proper little workout if you're not used to the terrain, and it beats a flat coastal walk hands down.

You get decent panoramic views across the bay once you're up there, with the Lakeland fells visible on a good day. The walk itself takes maybe an hour from the base depending on your pace. It's steep in patches but nothing technical. Families with older kids will manage it fine; younger ones might struggle with the gradient.

If you're camping nearby - and there's no shortage of holiday parks within a few miles, from the glamping spots around Wonderland Retreats and Hidden Hills to the more traditional setups like Bay View and Fell End - Craggs Hill makes a solid morning or afternoon excursion. Don't expect wilderness solitude; it's accessible enough that you'll meet other walkers. The nearest town is Carnforth itself, so you can pair it with supplies or a post-walk meal without much fuss.

Free to access, naturally. Best done in summer or early autumn when the ground's firmer and the views carry furthest. An hour or so at the top is plenty unless you're keen on detailed photography. Not revolutionary, but a worthwhile half-day diversion if you're in the area.
