About Crag Hill
This is one for walkers rather than casual strollers. Families with children who've got some hill experience under their belts will manage fine, but it's not the sort of place you bring toddlers expecting an easy ramble. Bring proper footwear, especially after rain - the paths get boggy and slippery fast.
The whole trip takes three to four hours depending on fitness and pace. It's a cracking spot for photography if the weather cooperates, and you'll often have the place to yourself even during school holidays. Winter walks can be bleak but brilliant if you catch it right.
If you're based at Philpin Farm Campsite or Primrose Glamping Pods nearby, Crag Hill makes an excellent half-day excursion. Both sites are within striking distance, so you can fit it around other activities in the area without needing to travel far. The upland moorland landscape is typical of this part of Yorkshire - wild and wind-swept, with sheep everywhere. It's not everyone's idea of scenic, but proper walkers tend to love it.
