About Cox Tor
This one's best for walkers who know what they're doing. The terrain is exposed, so bring a map and decent boots - it's not a casual stroll. Families with younger kids might find the moorland a bit bleak and featureless, and there's genuinely nothing else at the top besides the view and the rocks. History buffs won't get much from it either, unlike some of the Dartmoor peaks with Bronze Age remains. But if you want to feel the weather and the scale of the moor without tackling something more serious like High Willhays, this does the job.
Stay at Langstone Manor, just a mile and a half away - you're basically on the doorstep. The glamping pods are decent if you want something fancier than a tent, and Tavistock is close enough for supplies and an evening out. Lydford Caravan & Camping Park works too if you want more facilities. Go on a day when the visibility is good. The whole point of coming here is the view, and fog turns it into a trudge across wet grass.
