Cowden Knowe

The walk up Cowden Knowe doesn't take long, but the views across Kinross-shire are genuinely worth the effort. It's a proper little hill rather than a mountain - the sort of thing you can knock out in under an hour from the car park - but that brevity is part of its charm. On a clear day you get the Lomond Hills rolling away to the south and the whole Ochil range stretching across to the west. The peak itself is modest, grassy, with a few rocky outcrops that give you something to scramble over if you fancy it.

This works best for families who want a genuine walk without the commitment of something like Ben Cleuch or Ben Vorlich. Kids won't complain about the distance, and the views are reward enough. Walkers using Gallowhill Caravan & Camping Park or Meadow View Glamping will find it an excellent warm-up hike, especially if you're planning bigger days in the Ochils later in the week. Fossoway Cabins is also close enough to make it a convenient morning outing.

There's nothing fancy about it - no café, no facilities, just decent hill air and the satisfaction of a quick ascent. Go when the weather's settled rather than during the drizzle season. The ground can get boggy in places, so decent boots help. It's free to walk, obviously, and worth combining with other Kinross attractions if you're basing yourself at one of the nearby parks for a longer stay. Not Instagram famous, but quietly rewarding.
