You'll find old farming tools, domestic equipment, and exhibits that show what daily existence looked like for ordinary country people over the past couple of centuries.

This is exactly the sort of place that appeals to families with children old enough to engage with how things actually functioned - so probably eight and up. Adults who grew up around farming or have any curiosity about rural heritage will find themselves lingering longer than expected. It's low-key rather than flashy, which is rather refreshing.

The real draw is the immersion factor. Walking around a genuine farm setting while learning about historical agricultural practices feels more authentic than a sterile exhibition space ever could. Weather-dependent, though - it's not somewhere you want to visit during heavy rain given the outdoor elements.

If you're camping at Hill Cottage Farm or Summerlands (both within four miles), it makes an excellent wet-day alternative or a morning activity before heading to the New Forest. Don't expect a full day here - budget two hours maximum. Check opening hours before you go, as smaller museums can be unpredictable with seasonal closures. Worth a visit if you're genuinely interested in rural history, less compelling if you're just filling time.
