Breamore House and Countryside Museum

The farm animals help, frankly - there's something about seeing a working breed pig or getting near the horses that keeps younger visitors interested for a solid two hours. Walkers exploring the New Forest fringes might stop by for a couple of hours between countryside walks. History buffs will appreciate the detail, though don't expect academic depth - it's more about the atmosphere than scholarly rigour.

Admission is modest and parking's straightforward. Spring through early autumn is the call - wet winters make the outdoor bits less appealing. Allow three hours minimum if you're taking it seriously, two if you've got impatient kids.

If you're based at Hill Cottage Farm or Summerlands just a few miles away, this works as a decent rainy-day option or a gentle morning before heading into the New Forest proper. It's not essential, but it fills a gap well enough.
