Corran Esplanade Church

The small white church sitting right on Oban's waterfront is one of those places you'd easily walk past if you weren't paying attention - and that would be a shame. Corran Esplanade Church is a proper Victorian affair, all neat stone and modest charm, with views across the bay that make you understand why someone bothered building a church here in the first place. This is a working parish church, so you can actually step inside and have a look around, though opening hours aren't exactly broadcast loudly anywhere.

It's worth stopping by if you're already in Oban town centre - frankly it takes ten minutes maximum - but don't go out of your way thinking this is some grand historical landmark. What makes it worthwhile is the location itself. Standing here, you get the full picture of why Oban matters: the bay, the hills rising up behind, a sense of a proper Scottish seaside town rather than just a tourist pit stop. If you're staying at one of the nearby parks like Oban Holiday Park or Tanunda Pods, this is an easy stroll from your base.

Family groups will find it peaceful rather than thrilling. Kids won't hang about long unless they're into old churches, which some actually are. It's more for the walks and for getting oriented - this spot gives you your bearings in Oban better than most places. Free to visit, obviously, and you can combine it easily with a proper explore of the town's seafront and the shops along the main drag.
