Copy Plantation

A proper Lancashire woodland that doesn't try to be anything fancy. Copy Plantation sits just outside Clitheroe and does exactly what it says on the tin - it's a forest walk, nothing more, nothing less. The trees are decent enough, paths wind through without much fuss, and if you're camped at Pendle View Holiday Park or one of the other sites nearby, it's a solid two-mile option when the weather's not throwing a fit.

What you get is a chance to stretch your legs through some genuine woodland without paying entrance fees or queuing at a visitor centre. Families with younger kids might manage an hour here, though there's no playground or facilities to speak of. If you're after a proper walk, this doesn't pretend to be a destination - it's the sort of place you fit in between other things. The trees give good cover when it rains, which matters when you're camping in Ribble Valley.

Best times are autumn when the light filters through properly, and avoid peak summer weekends if you're after peace. The tracks can get boggy, so decent footwear isn't optional. It's the kind of place locals use for a quick constitutional rather than a full day out. There's no café, no gift shop, no pretence. If you're staying at Clitheroe Camping or one of the glamping spots scattered around the area, it's absolutely worth knowing about - just don't expect anything beyond what a Lancashire woodland actually delivers.
