Conegar Hill

The woodland path up Conegar Hill rewards you with views across the Dorset coast that justify the climb. It's a proper forest walk, not some manicured park trail - you get mud, roots, and the kind of canopy cover that keeps things cool even on warmer days. The ascent takes about twenty minutes from Bridport, and once you're up there the landscape opens out with glimpses toward West Bay if the light's right.

This works best for walkers who actually want a walk. Young children might lose interest halfway, and if you're after a casual stroll this feels a bit steep for what it is. But if you're the type who enjoys a forest without too much faffing about, it's well worth the effort. The area feels properly rural despite being so close to town.

You can tackle it as a morning outing and be back for lunch. There's no visitor facility or cafe on the hill itself, so come prepared. It's free to access - you just turn up and walk. Perfect as part of a longer exploration of the area if you're staying at Newlands or Seadown, both within walking distance of Bridport. The nearby Golden Cap Holiday Park is only a few miles away if you want a slightly bigger operation with more facilities. Combine it with a wander through Bridport itself afterward and you've got a solid half-day sorted.
